I, um, have been pretty terrible at getting myself to yoga, which is, given the price and proximity to my home, inexcusable. I haven’t been in a pool since who knows when, and well, any and all other forms of cross-training have fallen by the wayside these past few months. What have I been doing? Running. And lots of it. Running through injury, running sick as a dog, running for work, running marathons to honor commitments, running to encourage others, but never running or doing anything physical for myself. Running had, in a few ways, stopped being so fun.
This morning, a friend finally convinced me to join in on a nearby 7AM bootcamp. Confession: I am not at all confident in my arm strength or core. As I watched a few ladies wrap up an intense looking ab workout while walking over at 6:50AM, I started to feel pretty anxious. But IT WAS AWESOME!
Burpees, pushups, karaokes, sprints. Roadkill practice with staggered loops according to pace. Pull ups and pylos. It was exactly what I needed without realizing I needed it. I remembered how much fun sweating and humidity can be, and I remembered the thrill of stepping out of my comfort zone.
Especially as our marathons near, here’s to remembering the fun.

Really looking forward to running healthy and happy (and dare I say aggressively?) soon, especially as November 6 looms near. I’m sensing the transtion of my once peaceful running communities into way-too-serious-ville.
