“Running is just you, the work you put in, and the clock. You can’t cheat yourself. If you don’t put in the miles, you can’t go to the starting line thinking you’re going to pull a miracle out of nowhere. You get out exactly as much as you put in.”—Desiree Davila (via jessiezapo)
Last night, @shutupandrun said that someone offering to pace her for the 50 miler was maybe the most romantic thing she’d ever heard, and it reminded me that I take my own personal cheerleader, who ran about half of my 50 mile race with me in November, just for giggles might I add, for granted. Thank you.
“Players don’t usually come out of nowhere. If you go back and take a look, his skill level was probably there from the beginning but no one ever noticed…It’s a great story. It’s a testament to perseverance and hard work. It is a good example to kids everywhere. I am sure he has put in a great deal of work to always have that belief in himself. Now he has the opportunity to show it.”—Kobe Bryant, on Jeremy Lin (via smilelolx)
“This is a lifestyle. We make it part our lives and hold onto it for it is what we return to when all else falls apart. The singularity and the community exist together in a manner that cannot be easily explained or understood by those who do not lace up. This is who we are. Defined by the joys, the pains, the sweat, the pride, all of it wrapped within our waking and dreaming lives.”—Tony Cheong (via wdieb)
